San Diego County is set to embrace the summer with a vibrant calendar of events catering to a wide range of interests. From large-scale cultural festivals and family-friendly car shows to educational workshops and charity fundraisers, communities from Oceanside to Bonita are offering residents and visitors countless ways to connect, learn, and celebrate.
The summer season is kicking off with a number of significant cultural celebrations. In San Diego, the annual Greek Festival returns to St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Church on June 13 and 14. The event promises an immersive experience with authentic Greek cuisine, traditional music, and performances by youth dance troupes in folk costumes. The festival offers a taste of Greece with handmade pastries, Greek coffee, wine, and beer, alongside a kids fun zone and vendor booths.
Meanwhile, from June 17-21, SD Melanin will host Kinfolk Fest, a multi-day Juneteenth celebration culminating in a major festival at Waterfront Park on June 20. The event, which honours Black culture and freedom, will feature live music, DJ sets, art installations, and more than 100 Black-owned businesses. Juneteenth, recognized as a federal holiday in the United States, commemorates the end of slavery and has become a day of profound cultural celebration and reflection across the country.
Further north, Oceanside is preparing to honour America’s 250th birthday with the Oceanside USA 250 Festival on June 27 at the Junior Seau Pier Amphitheatre. The community celebration will feature live music, local food and drink vendors, and family activities. The event is part of a nationwide series of celebrations leading up to the country's semiquincentennial in 2026, a milestone that is prompting similar large-scale preparations for events like the FIFA World Cup, for which Toronto is renovating its central stadium.
Family fun and classic cars
For families and automobile enthusiasts, several events are planned. Belmont Park will host its annual Father’s Day Car Show on June 21, featuring a diverse collection of classic and custom cars, trucks, and motorcycles in its north lot. The free event includes live music and trophies for participants. The park's Cannonball restaurant will also offer a special 'Papakase' dining experience for the occasion.
In Chula Vista, Village Walk will be the scene for classic rock ‘n’ roll and classic cars on June 21. The New Catillacs will perform live, accompanied by a car display from the Classics Car Club. The evening also includes free activities for children, such as balloon art, glitter tattoos, and a bookmark-making station for Father's Day gifts.
Younger children are the focus of the Little Explorers Festival in Carlsbad on June 20. Hosted at Plaza Paseo Real, the event offers hands-on discovery stations, including a Mini Makeover Station for tote bag decorating and a Color Chemistry Station where kids can create a 'liquid science' bottle to take home. The open house will be followed by a presentation from DNA expert Sara Cochran.
In La Jolla, the Sierra Club Seal Society is offering free 'Talk N Walk' events on June 13, 20, and 27. A docent will lead a lecture on the current sea lion pupping season, followed by a guided walk to the shoreline to observe the colony. Meanwhile, film history buffs can celebrate the 100th anniversary of Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy's partnership at the 24th International Sons of the Desert Convention, held from June 21-25 at various San Diego venues.

MiraCosta College continues its lifelong learning series in Oceanside with two free lectures on June 26: one on navigating senior care options and another offering a fascinating look at Pompeii. For readers and collectors, the Friends of the Oceanside Public Library will hold a Vintage & Book Sale on June 20, with proceeds supporting library programs.
The city of Oceanside is also fostering local creativity through its O'Arts Grant Program. Applications for projects in dance, music, visual art, and more are open until August 14, with informational workshops scheduled for June 18.
Supporting community causes
Many upcoming events are focused on philanthropy and volunteerism. The Agua Hedionda Lagoon Foundation will host its 'DC Disco' Discovery Gala on August 29 at the Westin Carlsbad Resort & Spa. The event celebrates the 20th anniversary of its Discovery Campus and will raise funds for environmental stewardship, honouring the Rotary Club of Carlsbad for its support.
In Lemon Grove, the local Lions Club recently raised $2,200 at its annual Chili Cook-Off to support community projects. The club is part of a global service organization dedicated to making a difference in its community.
Animal lovers can get involved through the Teen Foster Program at the Rancho Coastal Humane Society in Encinitas, which allows teenagers 15 and older to care for homeless animals and earn service hours. For those looking to help seniors, the Senior Service Council Escondido is actively seeking a volunteer receptionist.
On the golf course, the Frontwave Foundation will host a charity tournament on June 26 at Emerald Isle Golf Course in Oceanside. Proceeds will fund the foundation's Summer Backpack Drive, providing school supplies for local children in the foster care system.
Civic services and engagement
For residents needing to certify documents for international use, the San Diego County Assessor-Recorder-County Clerk’s Office is hosting a one-day Apostille Pop-Up Shop on June 17. In partnership with the California Secretary of State, the event at the County Administration Centre allows locals to authenticate documents without travelling to state offices in Los Angeles or Sacramento. Detailed information on fees and eligible documents is available on the California Secretary of State's website.
In the political sphere, the Carlsbad Republican Women Federated group will hold a luncheon on June 23. The event will feature talks from Michael Gates, a candidate for state attorney general, and Herb Morgan, a candidate for state controller.
Rounding out the community offerings, the Del Mar Village Association's Summer Solstice event on June 18 at Powerhouse Park will raise funds to support local small businesses, while I Love A Clean San Diego and the city of Encinitas will host an EcoFest on June 28 to promote sustainability.
As summer unfolds, San Diego County residents will have no shortage of opportunities to engage with their communities, celebrate diverse cultures, and support important local causes.
