San Diego State University secured the second seed in the Mountain West Conference tournament after a tense 68-65 victory over UNLV at Viejas Arena on Saturday night. The win caps a strong regular season finish for the Aztecs, who won four of their last five games to clinch the coveted second seed. Guard Miles Byrd led all scorers with 22 points, including a clutch three-pointer with under a minute remaining that sealed the result. "We knew how important this game was for our tournament positioning," head coach Brian Dutcher said. "The guys showed real composure down the stretch." UNLV kept the contest close throughout, with forward Jalen Hill contributing 18 points and 9 rebounds for the Rebels. The Aztecs will open their tournament campaign on Thursday at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas.
